I love this drill. It's a great size a great weight, and hugely powerful. It has a drill setting and a hammer drill setting, with variable speeds in between, need more power increase it using the second gear. I had no problems drilling through concrete, or thin sheets of slippery laminate. I love it, I love it, I love it. Obviously we can see that I am a fan, but allow me to truly try to give you some helpful information regarding this tool. I had one that I had gotten as part of a ryobi tool set, about eight years ago, however, very saddly, during a private bridge repair on my buddies driveway, I mistakenly thought I had clipped onto my tool belt, and dropped into the river beneath, I was unable to locate it, so I had to buy a new one. At the time it was lost I could have gone on and purchased any brand, any type, but I chose to stick with this ryobi. It's a great tool, with great features. This set comes with the drill, two batteries, a charger, and a double sided flathead/philips bit. Everything you need to get started. The batteries charge up in about five minutes, and that's a full charge not some mediocre express charge, that allots half power for about seven minutes and leaves you cursing at half driven screws. This charge lasts for quite a while, I've gone weeks at a time on just two batteries with mild to moderate usage, including at rest and standby time. I've used DeWalts and Makitas, no name brands, and best name brands, and to say this out performs the best of them would be a falicy, but to say it holds it's own would be complete honesty, and after all that's what one should seek in a review of a product, both as a writer and a reader. I say again it's quite powerful, I've bored holes in bricks including the mortar joints for dryer vents, and I've used it for more delicate finish work like Victorian staircases, and it's always the tool for the job. It has a rather handy level on the back of it, in the shape of a target, which depending on the job will indicate square, horizontal, and vertical level. It'll indicate pitch on three different axises, and is always handy to have in a pinch, you'll never angle a screw or pre drill on a slant unintentionally again, it's an awesome feature. The keyless chuck is a good thing to have too, but these days just about every drill has this. It grips whatever bit you use tightly, regardless of size, shape, or purpose, and to this day I have yet to slip a bit. It also has a magnetic tray upfront to hold metallic odds and ends such as additional bits or screws, this may not sound unique to some, but again it's come to be of great service to me more than a time or two (i.e. up on a ladder). In addition to the tray, which by the way has it's sides beveled in to create an indented section thusly eliminating the possibility of bits rolling off, it has clips on the sides to hold up to four drivers of standard size. I always keep a universal, a hex, and a couple of number 4's handy as I find those to be most used, atleast in my world. From top to bottom it's a great tool and more than deserves my seal of approval, as well as your vote of confidence, give her a whirl, you won't be disappointed. I surely never have been, infact my worse day with this tool was the funeral procession for my last ones burial at sea.

Poor quality Ni-Cad batteries

I did not purchase this item from Amazon, however, I want to help others to NOT suck into the Ryobi 18V ONE + system. I purchased the 1/2 inch drill / light combo with two batteris and a charger. These batteries have never held a charge sufficiently to utilize the drill for either drilling or driving (screws) for even a moderate size project. Charging the batteries fully, then attempting to use them even a few days later just yields frustration as they will not even be able to get through one hole drilling and screw driving for a quick project. I decided to cut my loss after only one year and move up to a higher end brand with a lithium battery. Very happy now. Do not purchase a Ryobi Ni-Cad product or system.
