Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1XF8A52DMVM9I This compact drill has about all the features and quality you could ask for, including "hammer action" when desired.
If you don't need the hammer-drill option, see alternatives below. Smaller, lighter, cheaper.

- Fuel gauge: 3-step + blink warning
- 30-minute charger with good status read-outs

- There is no electronic squeal upon start-up
- The chuck on mine has no slop or wobble (big problem with earlier PS31s).
CONs:
- No strap hole
- Reduced warranty if you fail to register
- Misc Nit picks (see Note 4)
- - - Specifications - - -
- 2 lbs 5.0 oz (2.3 lbs)

- Handle circumference: 6.2"
- 3/8" chuck capacity
- RPM: 0-380, 0-1300
- Torque: 265/124 in lbs.

- - - Pricing - - -
The amazon prices bounce around...usually $130-$150. The camelcamelcamel site will show you price history and email you whenever this or any amazon product dips below your target price.
- - - Cost of Replacement Batteries - - -
You could spend more on replacement batteries than on the tool itself. Low tide on Amazon for Bosch's standard replacement is about $28. For other options, and comparison with Milwaukee and Porter Cable...See Note 5.
- - - Alternatives - - -
Compact models to consider if you don't need hammer action:
- Bosch PS31-2A 12-Volt Drill/Driver
- Milwaukee 2410-22 M12 12-Volt Drill/Driver
- Porter-Cable PCL120DDC-2 12-Volt Drill/Driver
- - - More Info - - -
- Over 58 Amazon reviews of the nearly identical Bosch PS31 (no hammer action). Most comments would apply to this model.
- Owner manual is not yet available online (as of Sept 2012). Feel free to post a comment here with detailed questions.
- - - Notes - - -
Note 1: I drilled ten 3/8" holes in 2-1/2 inch thick concrete block, using a new Bosch Blue Granite hammer-drill bit. The holes took 10 seconds each. It consumed about half of one battery charge. (Manual says 3/8" is the largest recommended bit for masonry.)
Note 2: Light - Because the chuck is tapered, it doesn't block the LED light too badly. It hits your target if it's more than 2" away from the chuck's tip.
Note 3: Owner manual is well illustrated, clear, and fairly complete. There are a few nonsense moments, such as an extension cord guide (for a 70 watt charger!), and advice to bring your drill in for inspection every 6 months.
Note 4: Nit Picks...
- The pointer for screw-drill-hammer mode is hard to see (dark blue against black)
- For a top-of-line drill, I'd expect some better detailing...rubber feet on the charger...labels on battery that are not half adhered, edges flapping about.
Note 5: Battery cost comparison...
$28 - Bosch BAT412A (1.3 Ah - 2 year warranty) *1-year if you fail to register*
$49 - Bosch BAT413A (1.5 Ah - 2 year warranty) *1-year if you fail to register*
$24 - Bosch compatible (ATC) (1.3 Ah - 1 year warranty)
$24 - Milwaukee 48-11-2401 (1.4 Ah - 2 year warranty)
$45 - Milwaukee 48-11-2402 (3.0 Ah - 3 year warranty)
$39 - Milwaukee compatible (GPK) (2.6 Ah - 1 year warranty)
$46 - Porter-Cable PCL12BLX (1.3 Ah - 3 year warranty)
Prices are "Low tide" 2012 Amazon prices (approximate). Check camelcamelcamel for the most recent price info. You might have to wait a few weeks to get the best price.

Great Drill... exceeds all expectations
By Steve
Bosch has always been hit or miss for me... I used a Bosch circular saw and miter box saw for some time and have grown to hate them, however the Bosch table saw I own is a dream. My cordless drills get heavy daily use, so drills that don't keep up, usually end up in a box somewhere. I got this Bosch drill as a backup to my 12v Milwaukee as it's my most used drill.
Out of the box, both the Bosch and Milwaukee drills are very similar... same weight, same feel. Both have very different motors... the Milwaukee's motor feels rougher, but also seems a bit more powerful and a tad bit faster. The Bosch, on the other hand, is much smoother. The build-quality of both are outstanding, but I would give Bosch the edge for having thicker rubber padding where it's needed most.
I only have two complaints with the Bosch... first, the battery power indicator on the tool seems inaccurate. With three lights, it seems like the battery level goes down unevenly, with the tool on the single-light level for 75% of the time. My Milwaukee battery level is much more accurate, and I take notice of it quite often. My second complaint is the led illumination... the chuck blocks the light so that the bit tip is always in a shadow.
The most useful feature of this tool, for me, is the selector rings behind the chuck. My Milwaukee drill only has one, so when I want to switch between drilling and torque-limited screw-driving, I have to spin the ring all the way around the tool. This is a big deal to me when I have only one drill available and I'm switching back and forth constantly. The Bosch allows you to set the torque on the outer ring, then quickly switch between drilling and torque-limited driving with a slight turn of the inner ring. This may be of limited use to some, but it's a HUGE help to me when pre-drilling and installing cabinet hinges. This is main reason why I have been using the Bosch drill much more often then my Milwaukee.
Overall, it's an outstanding compact drill/driver and highly recommended for cabinet/fixture work.

Good for impromtu jobs
By Shadow Moses
Expectation should be set this is a household drill and not some heavy duty impact drill. Its great to have in a drawer to mount shelves and fix furniture and cabinets around the house. So far the batteries on this unit outlast the Ryobi drill bundle I purchased about a year ago hands down. Resist the urge to use it out of the box and take the time to fully charge both batteries. Even though they may come (partially) charged it was only for QC testing at the facility and may give a false expectation of battery duration.
