good drill

This is a nice drill. My only problem was with size of the chuck. That's probably me not knowing how they size them.the ad said 3/4" chuck and i thought you could put a 3/4" drill bit instead of a 1/2".

Medium duty hammer drill with nice features

I bought this because Amazon is practically giving them away and I was looking for something lighter than my 10amp dewalt. The makita has two speed transmission and you can hammer at either speed. It also has a dial control for the max rpm. Very useful for controlled drilling in steel or concrete. It also has a trigger lock to maintain speed.
I matched this up against a 10amp dewalt dwd520 and for most light and medium applications the makita worked just as fast. 4in deep 1/2" hole in concrete took about 5 seconds, 1 in spade in 4x4 about 6 seconds. For bigger holes or for long periods of use, the dewalt showed its power advantage where the Makita struggled (the clutch kicked out a lot). But the dewalt cost 2x and weighs a pound more. So, there you go
The chuck key fit perfectly and has a long handle so I had no trouble tightening bits. Not sure what happened with the other reviewer.
Remember, for hammer drilling be sure to tighten all three holes in the chuck, like you would with lug nuts in a car. Otherwise the bit will become loose and slip and fall out.
Edit, the price is now 30% higher. I'd go with the 2070 now.

Great Drill, bad chuck

The drill is a workhorse. I drilled into concrete with this thing for hours at a time and it never flinched.
I do have the problem with the chuck that others have mentioned. The chuck is in fact too small and thus wears out and eventually slips. At first you'll be fine with the chuck, but as it wears there will be problems with it slipping.
With a better chuck, this thing is 5 stars all the way for the price. Seems like an easy thing for Makita to fix (not sure why they haven't yet).
