Good Product

I bought this drill for occasional use on a ranch. It does the job well drilling 1 in. holes in steel and wood posts.
Keep in mind this is not a jobber tool, but for home use. For the price it is an excellent drill.
Like most folks, I use a battery portable drill for most of my work which is not suited for real heavy duty, large diameter drilling.
That's when I resort to a corded drill. The two speed feature comes in really handy.
My 23 year old Craftsman finally gave up, so this is a good replacement.

Plastic depth stop

I bought this from the blue home center for much less. Good thing too because I returned it the next day.
The depth gauge is made out of plastic! The side handle is flimsy as is the forward/reverse switch near the trigger. The motor produced a strange smell when running. Overall, the fit and finish are about the same as the stuff from the place with Freight from a Harbor.
I never really liked Porter Cable in the past but they've really rolled downhill recently.

I plan to install functional shutters on our home, which involves drilling dozens of holes in the brick exterior. A hammer drill and quality bits are vital. This drill is the answer. It has two speeds and can operate as either a hammer drill or not. With a half-inch chuck and lots of power it is a beast. Compared to other drills, often with less features, the price is great and buying through Amazon is easy and secure.
