Mighty mouse
By William Stockdale
This is one tough little hammer drill. Came with 2 RED Lithium batteries and they do fine. I drill alot of 3/16" for tapcons overhead up in the rafters (comercial Electrician) This drill has the power combined with the size to get anywhere I've needed to get to. I've got an XC battery that I use alot but it adds to the size of the drill. The Red Lithiums have the power to get the job done and don't add to the size. The drill took a spill off a ten foot ladder but I picked it up and kept on going. I've drilled 1/4" holes through 1/8th inch metal plate and it did just fine. over all a great little drill if you keep it's size and power in mind

Well built and very useful tool
By David L. Griffin
Bought this Milwaukee 12 volt drill/driver as my old DeWalt 12 volt drill/driver batteries (2) would no longer take a charge after 16 years. I reviewed all 12 volt drill driver brands using user reviews on the net and this one shown above the rest by a wide margin. I knew I wanted lithium ion batteries (2), the charger and case, forward/reverse, two-speed, etc. I own other Milwaukee tools, (120V Sawzall), 120V hammer drill, 12" compound mitre saw, saber saw, etc.) and have found them to be reliable, good performers and comfortable to use. I have been renovating my own homes for over 40 years (six of them)and have been helping friends with theirs over that same time frame. I am careful with power tools while using them and I maintain them. I learned a long time ago not to lend them out as that has been the only time they have ever gotten damaged. I do all my own carpentry, electrical, plumbing, tile, etc. work and, now that I am "retired", I tend to work 6-7 hours a day, six days a week with these tools. When I was employed, I worked from Friday night to Sunday night on my home renovations, indoor and out, nearly every weekend.
This drill is very comfortable to hold in your hand (I have large hands). There are no sharp edges anywhere (like the trigger) to catch on your hands or your work. It is easy to change speed and/or reverse direction. It is easy to change drill bits and driver bits. It has an incredible amount of power for a drill this size. The LI batteries last much longer than ni-cads and NMH and are a snap to change. They re-charge much faster than my old ni-cads. I don't feel like I am dragging around a boat anchor like my 18V drill driver, so I use this drill most of the time unless I am framing, fencing or driving into masonry (when I grab the 18V).
The only reason I did not give this drill five stars is that the drill stops nearly instantly when you take your finger off the trigger, so fast that it loosens the chuck a little each time you stop the drill. After about four or five stops, the drill bit falls out. I have tried easing my finger off the trigger slowly to try to make the drill stop more slowly, but it doesn't. The only fix I have found is to tighten the chuck every other or every third stop so I don't lose my drill bits. It will make a noticeable "click" when the bit is locked and you are off and running again.
Other than that nuisance, I can highly recommend this drill. And, as usual, Amazon had one of the best prices, free shipping, no sales tax, in-stock and delivered the drill in four days (free).

Non- Expert review
By David Topping
I am a weekend fixer, one of those guys that knows a little about everything but am an expert at nothing (DIY wise). I do things for the wife and friends/family basic shelf and picture hanging etc etc.
I buy all my own tools and never borrow, I was looking to buy a small cordless hammer drill because I do not do any heavy duty stuff per se and was sick of humping my makita corded hammer drill (great tool) and extension everywhere to drill one 3/16 hole for a concrete screw.
This is advertised as a sub-compact hammer drill, part of my reason for buying this too is that popular mechanics magazine voted this best overall in a recent issue and in part because of the reviews here.
It must also be noted that this is pretty much it, if you want a decent small cordless HAMMER drill, though I hear Bosch has their new PS130 12v Hammer drill which will soon be joining the party (as of writing this its not available on Amazon...yet)
I didn't want to post a review until I had used it and must confess I agree with all the other reviewers, just an amazing tool, I am getting used to the incredible leap in technology that is "Lithium Ion" and was less flabbergasted as I have a Bosch impact driver that is "killer" too.
I charged up this unit's both batteries with the charger out of its bright red hard plastic carry case (I have stuck some other bits and pieces in the case and it now doubles as an additional tool case) and left it for a few weeks (purchase was early December) you will note that this is the 1st time in 8 weeks I am using it and all battery lights were at max.
My job today was a simple shelf strengthening using wooden brackets and I had to drill 3/16 holes for concrete screws, in Jamaica, every wall is reinforced concrete inner outer doesn't matter- sheet rock is a new thing here, great when you want to hang a heavy mirror or Flat screen but a pain for small jobs.
I was using 1 3/4" tapcon and they were just too short because of the thickness of the shelf bracket, I only had 3" tapcons, and out of habit had bought my corded Makita "just in case", however it was not required as this tool just excelled and EASILY drilled 20 holes of 3 1/2" depth...just what I wanted!!!.
Be advised that the Torque setting works ONLY for the "driver" selection, NOT for the regular drilling or Hammer drilling selector.
Lastly I had added to my wish list this:
Milwaukee 48-11-2402 M12 Xc Battery Pack as I felt that these small batteries would not last long, but I really think with the 1/2hr recharge time, I do not need it and it would only be beneficial to a contractor or tradesmen , as opposed to me the weekend warrior.
Fantastic buy!!
