Did the job, and then some!

I am installing 5 stalls in a horse barn I just built. I am using topcon screws to attach boards to concrete posts. I placed about 90 holes. As long as the drill bit was not dull, this baby worked like a charm. I actually started to time how long it took compared to a "regular" drill, but it was pointless. Twenty seconds for the hammer drill vs............ after 3 minutes, and not getting very far, what was the point of contiuing. I have been quite happy with all my 18V porter cable tools! The batteries also seem to charge up rather quickly, so the is little to no down time!

At first glance after receiving this tool I was skeptical of its ability,because it was small and lightweight also the rpm's weren't what i was used to.A few days ago I put it to the test on a concrete ceiling ,and I gotta tell ya ,no problem and I was pushing hard,i would definitely recommend this tool to anyone , I am in the business so I have used my share of tools over the years and it seems to me that the other tool guys are getting much too pricey.the porter cable line is where i am going now

If you have PC 18V batts and you need to drill into concrete, this is what you need

I've been remodeling a room in my basement, using Tapcons to run through XPS + furring strips. I also am in possession of a 3-year-old PC 18V Li-Ion tool set. So I see this add-on for about 1/2 the price of the local big-box store, and figure to try it out.
After drilling about 50 holes for Tapcons with a single (Tapcon branded) bit, I can say this tool was definitely worth the money and is a welcome addition to the kit. This is a BARE TOOL: unless you already own or are planning to buy a Porter-Cable 18V battery/charger or kit, this tool is not for you. If you do, and you wish to hammer-drill (NOT Impact Drive, there's a separate tool for that!) into concrete or cinder block, then this tool will do the job for you. Each ~1.5" deep 1/4" hole took about 10 seconds, and again I'm still on the first bit. The drill feels very solid in the hand, a little bit more so than the (non-hammer) drill which came with the original kit. There's no separate handle for long two-handed sessions.
If you lack the PC 18V batts, don't want to rely on batts PC does sell a corded 2-speed hammer drill with a side handle for not too much more.
Oh, and when you're done with your masonry drilling, you can take it out of hammer mode and have a second drill to use (albeit with some extra axial play).
Just a commentary: I'm a homeowner, not a tradesman. I've been quite pleased with my Porter-Cable 18V tools in general. PC was bought by Black and Decker, and they positioned PC around the upper-homeowner tier: above Black-and-Decker branded tools but below the more "entry level pro" DeWalt (all owned by B&D). I bought the kit while remodeling my kitchen, for which it served me perfectly and has continued to serve now 3 years later. So if you're expecting any of these to match up to top-tier tools costing much more, well, they probably won't. I don't buy tools for bragging rights, I buy them to get the job done. So far all of my PC tools have. If I were a tradesman I'd probably have bought more appropriate tools for that.
